The Nevada Safety
Consultation and Training Section (SCATS), the State’s OSHA safety and training
counterpart, is encouraging construction industry employer participation in a
National Fall Prevention Safety Stand Down. Fall hazards account for the
highest number of deaths in the construction industry with 269 construction
worker fatalities reported in 2012.
Led by the U.S. Department
of Labor, the national awareness campaign scheduled from June 2-6 aims to
provide employers and workers with life-saving information about working safely
from ladders, scaffolds, roofs and other elevated surfaces. Employers and

representatives will join PENTA Building Group leadership at their quarterly
Safety Stand Down on two separate jobsites in Las Vegas on June 2.

address the assembled workers to provide more than 550 employees with an
overview of fall prevention information and awareness during the two events.
The Safety Consultation and Training Section within the
Division of Industrial Relations, an agency of the Department of Business and
Industry helps Nevada employers and employees create and maintain a safe and
healthy workplace. SCATS accomplishes this by providing free,
high-quality safety and health consultation services that focus on the
prevention of injury and illness.
