Terry Johnson was
appointed by Governor Brian
Sandoval as the Director of the
Department of Business &
Industry in January 2011.
Business & Industry oversees 14
diverse State regulatory and
administrative divisions –
covering such areas as Financial
Institutions, Mortgage Lending,
Housing, Labor, Industrial
Relations, and the Taxicab
Authority, to name a few.
As Director of
Business & Industry, Mr. Johnson
serves as a member of the
Governor’s cabinet, advising the
Governor on policy matters and
public administration.
Prior to
becoming Director of Business &
Industry, Mr. Johnson served as
the Director of Administration
in the Clark County District
Attorney’s Office. Previously,
he served in the administration
of former Nevada Gov. Kenny
Guinn as Director of DETR and as
the State Labor Commissioner.
During his tenure as Labor
Commissioner, he was credited
with reforming many of the
state’s labor laws and
regulations, as well as vastly
improving the agency’s
operations. For his efforts, the
Nevada Taxpayer’s Association
awarded him its prestigious
Cashman Good Government Award.
He was also selected by In
Business Las Vegas magazine as
one of Southern Nevada’s “Rising
Stars.”
Director
Johnson began his career in
public service in 1996 as the
Assistant Business Advocate
within the state’s Office of
Business Finance & Planning. In
that position he served as a
liaison between the business
community and state government.
Director
Johnson received a Bachelor of
Arts degree in Political Science
from the University of Nevada,
Las Vegas. He also holds a Juris
Doctorate degree from UNLV’s
Boyd Law School.
While based in
Southern Nevada, Director
Johnson maintains offices in
both Carson City and Las Vegas.
