Although Nevada is not the largest state in the union, our homeowners have shouldered a
disproportionate share of the housing crisis. Nevada has landed at or
near the top of the list of states leading foreclosure filings per
capita since the beginning of the crisis. As of January 2016, more than 20% of Nevada
homeowners are still underwater, owing more on the loan than the current
market value of the property. Although rising prices and lower rates of unemployment have played a factor in the recovery from the low point of the recession, many homeowners are still struggling. There are still a number of programs providing ongoing assistance to struggling homeowners.
