Governor Sandoval Declares November 24th Small Business Saturday in Nevada

Carson City, NV - November 19, 2012

Governor Sandoval has issued a proclamation declaring Saturday November 24th as Small Business Saturday in Nevada. The proclamation reinforces the importance to and impact of small businesses on local economies throughout the state.

A PROCLAMATION BY THE GOVERNOR

WHEREAS, November 24th marks the third annual Small Business Saturday, a day to support the local businesses that create jobs, boost the economy and preserve neighborhoods around the country; and

WHEREAS, Small Business Saturday (SBS) was created in 2010 in response to small business owners’ most pressing need: more customers; and

WHEREAS, in 2011, more than 2.7 million Facebook users, 230 public and private organizations, 75 corporations and elected officials in all 50 states and Washington D.C. declared their support for SBS; and

WHEREAS, last year, more than 500,000 small business owners leveraged an online tool or promotional materials for SBS and 15,000 businesses signed up for free Facebook advertising to promote their products and services in the run up to SBS;

NOW, THEREFORE, I BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim November 24, 2012 as SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY IN NEVADA.

According to the SBA, small businesses, those with 500 or fewer employees, account for 95.6% of the state’s employers and employ 42% of the private-sector workforce in Nevada. “In Nevada, small business fuels our state’s economy and will be a key factor in our economic recovery,” said Bruce Breslow, Director of the Department of Business and Industry. The Department of Business and Industry is the state agency designated by Governor Sandoval to serve as his administration’s small business advocate.

Breslow joins Governor Sandoval in encouraging Nevadans to support small businesses by shopping at local, independently-owned retailers during the holiday season. “I encourage all Nevadans to support these local entrepreneurs on Saturday and throughout the year. By including these unique, local merchants in your holiday shopping traditions you keep hard-earned local revenue within your community,” said Breslow. Spending your dollars locally creates a ripple effect, with local businesses more likely to reinvest in the community through support of ancillary businesses and local charities.”
