Carson City, NV -
November 27, 2013Governor
Brian Sandoval and Department of Business and Industry Director Bruce Breslow
today encouraged Nevada residents to take part in “Small Business Saturday”
this Saturday, November 30. The day, which is part of a nationwide
campaign led by American Express to highlight the importance of small business,
also falls on the traditional opening of the holiday shopping season.
“I
encourage all Nevadans to visit and support their local small business this
Saturday and throughout the year,” Governor Brian
Sandoval said. “By spending their hard-earned money in a
locally-owned, independent business, Nevadans create a ripple effect in each of
our communities. Working together, we can continue to strengthen the
fabric of our state.”
According
to the Small Business Administration, small businesses, or those with 500 or
fewer employees, account for 95.6% of Nevada’s employers and employ 42% of the
private-sector workforce in the state. “In Nevada, small businesses fuel our
state’s economy and will be a key factor in our ongoing economic recovery,”
said Bruce Breslow, Director of the Department of Business and Industry.
When
consumers shop locally, more than 50 percent of the money spent stays within
the community.
“I
join the Governor in encouraging all Nevadans to support these local
entrepreneurs on Saturday and throughout the year. By including these unique,
local merchants in your holiday shopping traditions you keep hard-earned local
revenue within your community,” said Breslow.
