- May 27, 2015

The Nevada Division of Insurance (NVDOI) is seeking public input on the selection of Nevada’s essential health benefits plan (EHB), which will set the benchmark for health care services that will be required in all individual and small group health insurance plans starting in 2017.

“The Essential Health Benefits package has served Nevada well since it was adopted for the plan year 2014, but it is a good idea to revisit that package periodically to ensure it remains relevant and efficient” said Commissioner Scott J. Kipper.

The Nevada Division of Insurance will be talking public comment at four public meetings being held across the state. There will be one morning session and one evening session.

On Wednesday, June 3rd the evening sessions will be video conferenced in 3 locations:

Nevada must select an existing health plan to set the benchmark for the items and services included in the essential health benefits package. Nevada must choose one from the following 10 plans:

Small Group Plans:

1.            Sierra Health and Life: SHL Solutions PPO Platinum

2.            Health Plan of Nevada: HPN Solutions HMO Platinum

3.            Health Plan of Nevada: HPN Solutions POS Gold

State Employee Plans:

1.            Nevada PEBP: Self-funded PPO Plan

2.            Nevada PEBP: Health Plan of Nevada HMO

3.            Nevada PEBP: Hometown Health Plan HMO

Largest HMO Plan:

1.            HPN: Clark County School District-HPN Solutions HMO

Federal Employee Plans:

1.            GEHA: Benefit Plan 2014

2.            FEHBP: Blue Cross-Blue Shield Standard

3.            FEHBP: Blue Cross-Blue Shield Basic

Plan documents and other support materials such as comparison tools can be found at http://doi.nv.gov/ehb.aspx.

The benefits and services included in the health insurance plan selected by the State of Nevada would become the essential health benefits package.

In December, 2012 after numerous meetings with interested Nevada consumers, Commissioner Scott J. Kipper selected a small group plan from the Health Plan of Nevada as the 2014-2016 EHB Benchmark Plan for the State.
