Nevada’s Safety Consultation and Training Section (SCATS) Assists International Company in Safety Procedures

Las Vegas, NV - February 18, 2014

The Safety Consultation and Training Section (SCATS) of the State of Nevada’s Division of Industrial Relations is reaching across state and national borders in making a difference in workplace safety. ASTOUND Group, a global design and fabrication house that builds end-to-end solutions for events, exhibits and environments, has utilized SCATS’ resources to develop a comprehensive workplace safety plan that is being used in ASTOUND’s Las Vegas office. With additional offices located in Toronto and projects being completed in 25 countries, this safety plan will soon be used company-wide.

The need for the safety plan was identified a year ago when Tom Fitzgerald joined ASTOUND as the general manager of the U.S. operation. Fitzgerald quickly recognized that an official company safety plan and program was missing, and contacted SCATS for assistance. SCATS visited ASTOUND’s manufacturing operation in Las Vegas, which has 19 employees, and worked with Fitzgerald in creating a customized safety plan for the organization.

“Obviously there will be some county-specific safety laws and procedures that need to be addressed when our Canadian operations adopt these safety plans and programs, but these safety plans that SCATS assisted us in creating are a great resource that will help ensure our employees’ safety in all locations,” said Fitzgerald. “I am thankful for all of the assistance SCATS provided in creating and implementing our workplace safety plan and I am anxious to have our other offices adopted the plan, as well.”
