Las Vegas, NV -
September 16, 2014The State of Nevada
Housing Division (NHD) at a kickoff event today announced the official launch
of NVHousingSearch.org, a free statewide housing locator website to give
renters, landlords, housing professionals, and social service providers better
access to rental housing information and listings.
North Las Vegas Mayor
John Lee, along with Reno Mayor Bob Cashell and Sparks Mayor Gino Martini,
joined NHD for the public event on Tuesday and spoke to how the website will
benefit their communities and residents throughout the State. Other speakers
included John Hill, Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority, Jeff Duncan,
Nevada Aging and Disability Services, Steven Silverman, HELP USA, among others.
A number of housing professionals from across the state contributed commentary
through video clips, offering perspectives on how the service addresses an
array of housing needs for all Nevadans.
Attendees included
state and local officials, representatives from housing agencies and
nonprofits, property managers, real estate professionals, and more. A live
demonstration showcased the easy-to-use NVHousingSearch.org.
“We have received
encouraging feedback from our housing partners, elected officials and real
estate professionals. The extensive listings available will be especially
beneficial to prospective renters whose work and family demands leave them with
limited time to invest in a search for housing. The searchable listings
will also be beneficial to those with income limitations or disabilities,”
said Betsy Fadali, Nevada Housing Division.
“This
site provides a proven online system that will help families navigate
affordable housing inventory that meets specific family needs,”
added Nancy Brown, Senior Manager at Charles Schwab Bank and Co-Chair of the NVHousingSearch.org
Advisory Board. “It also provides a free resource for property managers.”
The
site, which currently represents more than 12,800 rental units, was developed
to fulfill a mandate that NHD create and maintain a statewide affordable housing
database. The site is powered by Socialserve.com, a nonprofit
organization that develops customized rental database platforms. The
organization, which will provide ongoing management of the locator, staffs a
toll-free, bilingual call center to facilitate questions from landlords seeking
to list or update a rental property and can conduct customized housing searches
for users.
To search or list
housing, visit www.NVHousingSearch.org
any time, or call a toll-free, bilingual call center at 1-877-428-8844, Monday
through Friday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific Time.
About the Nevada Housing Division
The Nevada Housing Division was created by the Nevada Legislature in
1975, when it was recognized that a shortage of safe, decent, and sanitary
housing existed throughout the State for low- and moderate-income Nevadans.
Their mission is to improve quality of life by providing affordable housing
opportunities. For more information visit www.housing.nv.gov.
