Division of Mortgage Lending Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner Appointed

Carson City, NV - November 04, 2016

Department of Business and Industry Director Bruce Breslow today announced that Cathy Sheehy has been appointed as commissioner and Scott Whittemore as deputy commissioner of the Division of Mortgage Lending, effective November 7. The appointments come after a nationwide recruitment to fill vacancies resulting from the resignation of former commissioner Jim Westrin and retirement of deputy commissioner Nancy Corbin.

Cathy Sheehy has 24 years of experience in retail banking where she was a branch manager for 18 years and a product manager for five.  During her time as branch manager, she was tapped to oversee operations and staff training at other branches to improve their operational performance. In addition to her experience in retail banking, Cathy has completed the mortgage lending courses required of licensees of the Mortgage Lending Division.  Cathy had resided in Las Vegas since 1987 with her husband. She volunteers with The Shade Tree, Civitan International and has hosted 9 intercultural exchange students through AFS-USA.

Cathy brings a high-level of successful operations and personnel management experience. Her leadership in these areas will be beneficial to the Division going forward,” said Breslow.

Scott Whittemore is a third-generation Nevadan, born and raised in Reno. He earned a political-science degree at the University of San Diego and a law degree from the Boyd School of Law at UNLV where he wrote for the Law Review.  He was recruited by the Wingfield Nevada Group’s Executive Leadership Program where he learned real-estate development, human resources, project management and government affairs. Scott is also an entrepreneur, successfully managing operations and personnel for several ventures.  Scott resides in Las Vegas along with his wife Kristin and their two sons where he is active with Little League and Mountain View Presbyterian Church.

According to Breslow, “ Scott has a comprehensive understanding of the legislative process and demonstrated success working with multiple stakeholders.  His legal training, critical thinking skills and business acumen will be an asset to the Division.”
