Department of Business and Industry Director Bruce
Breslow today announced that Cathy Sheehy has been appointed as commissioner
and Scott Whittemore as deputy commissioner of the Division of Mortgage
Lending, effective November 7. The appointments come after a nationwide
recruitment to fill vacancies resulting from the resignation of former
commissioner Jim Westrin and retirement of deputy commissioner Nancy Corbin.
Cathy Sheehy has 24 years of experience in retail
banking where she was a branch manager for 18 years and a product manager for
five. During her time as branch manager, she was tapped to oversee
operations and staff training at other branches to improve their operational
performance. In addition to her experience in retail banking, Cathy has completed
the mortgage lending courses required of licensees of the Mortgage Lending
Division. Cathy had resided in Las Vegas since 1987 with her husband. She
volunteers with The Shade Tree, Civitan International and has hosted 9
intercultural exchange students through AFS-USA.

Cathy brings a high-level of successful operations
and personnel management experience. Her leadership in these areas will be
beneficial to the Division going forward,” said Breslow.
Scott Whittemore is a third-generation Nevadan, born
and raised in Reno. He earned a political-science degree at the University of
San Diego and a law degree from the Boyd School of Law at UNLV where he wrote
for the Law Review. He was recruited by the Wingfield Nevada Group’s
Executive Leadership Program where he learned real-estate development, human
resources, project management and government affairs. Scott is also an
entrepreneur, successfully managing operations and personnel for several
ventures. Scott resides in Las Vegas along with his wife Kristin and
their two sons where he is active with Little League and Mountain View
Presbyterian Church.
According to Breslow, “ Scott has a comprehensive
understanding of the legislative process and demonstrated success working with
multiple stakeholders. His legal training, critical thinking skills and
business acumen will be an asset to the Division.”

The Division, a Department of Business
and Industry agency is authorized to enforce the statutes and regulations
pertaining to Mortgage Bankers, Mortgage Brokers, Mortgage Agents, Escrow
Agencies, Escrow Agents and Loan Modification Consultants, Foreclosure
Consultants and other persons who provide similar services. The mission
of the Division of Mortgage Lending (MLD) is to promote professionalism,
education and ethics in the mortgage lending, escrow, loan modification and
foreclosure consultant industries through fair regulation and coordination with
industry and consumer groups in addition to providing consumers with a fair and
balanced complaint resolution process.
