To expand its offerings and better equip Nevada’s
workforce with necessary health and safety information and training amidst the
COVID-19 pandemic, the Safety Consultation and Training Section (SCATS) of the
State of Nevada’s Division of Industrial Relations is now offering health and
safety classes virtually. Shifting to virtual classes prevents the spread of
COVID-19 and allows all Nevadans, not just those who live near a SCATS office
or those who can travel to one, access to a range of free workplace safety
classes.
SCATS now offers more than 20 free classes online, including classes on personal protective equipment, written
workplace safety programs, respiratory
protection awareness and many more. The new virtual classes are part of SCATS’ COVID-19
resources initiative, which includes the COVID-19 resources page. This initiative is designed to keep Nevadans working in a variety of to
protect the safety and health of our communities.
“We are proud to expand our
service offering and make it easier for all Nevadans to access our classes by
moving more than 20 classes online,” said SCATS Chief Administrative Officer, Todd
Schultz. “SCATS is dedicated to protecting Nevadans, reducing the spread of
COVID-19, and providing all of Nevada’s workforce with the tools and resources
necessary to stay safe at work.”
SCATS is offering free online classes multiple
days a week starting in May. Anyone wishing to register for these free classes
can do so at the SCATS
calendar page. The full curriculum of available classes currently
includes: scaffold
regulatory review, concrete and masonry regulatory review, sanitation in
workplace, confined space awareness, written workplace safety program, fall
protection regulatory review, powered industrial trucks, forklift safety awareness, respirable
crystalline silica in construction, respiratory protection awareness, machine
safeguarding, personal protective equipment, bloodborne pathogens awareness, asbestos
awareness, excavation regulatory review, introduction to OSHA, hazard
communication awareness, safety data sheets, hearing conservation program, workplace
violence awareness, workplace emergencies and evacuation, electrical hazards, supervisory
communication with non-English speaking employees, and steel erection
regulatory review.
