The Employee Veteran of the Month award initiative was launched in January 2021. Each month, an employee veteran is honored by the Nevada Department of Administration Director and the Administrator of the Division of Human Resource Management.

Jana has served in the Nevada Air National Guard for the past 14 years.  She currently holds the rank of Master Sergeant as a C-130 Instructor Loadmaster and additional duty First Sergeant with the 192nd Airlift Squadron, 142nd Operations Group, 152nd Airlift Wing in Reno. She has deployed on active-duty contingency operations to Afghanistan, Kuwait and Puerto Rico. She has been employed with the State of Nevada’s Division of Industrial Relations for 10 years. As a safety specialist consultant, she works with employers in Nevada to identify and mitigate existing and potential safety and health hazards.  She actively promotes the state’s safety recognition programs, including the Voluntary Protection Program where she exemplifies excellence as an audit team leader. Her strong professional ethic made her the ideal candidate to represent SCATS at the Associated General Contractors of America’s Woman in Construction Week.

Jana is in constant pursuit of enhancing her professional qualifications and performance through ongoing career development opportunities in both her military career and state service. She has acquired her Associate Safety Professional (ASP) designation through the American Society of Safety Professionals and is currently working toward obtaining the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification. Most notably, she recently obtained a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health from Columbia Southern University.

According to her supervisors, Jana is a true team player, dedicated to finding ways to enhance workplace morale, motivation and wellbeing within the Reno SCATS office. During the disruption created by the COVID-19 pandemic, she found innovative ways for the office to keep in contact with each other while abiding by the agency’s mandated health and safety measures. Her positive perspective, pursuit of excellence and willingness to serve her colleagues at SCATS as well as her continued loyalty and dedicated service with the Nevada Air National Guard makes her highly qualified to receive this honor.
