of Business and Industry Director Bruce Breslow today announced the appointment
of Department of Public Safety (DPS) Captain Tom Ely as interim administrator
of the Nevada Taxicab Authority (TA) beginning October 27. Mr. Ely serves
as the Captain of the Parole and Probation’s Northern Command-Rural Offices and
will return to his duties at DPS once a permanent appointment to the TA post is
made
“We
are pleased that DPS has made Captain Ely available to us during this
transition,” said Director Breslow. “He will work closely with the Director’s office
and TA staff to oversee all functions of the agency.”
Ely
has nearly 27 years of full time law enforcement experience in progressive
leadership roles, with more than 20 years at DPS where he has managed high
profile units, operations and personnel. He has also served as an agency
trainer and leadership instructor and has extensive experience in technology
infrastructure. Prior to his law enforcement service, he began his career
in administration and operational management of a private sector transportation
and logistics company.
A
formal recruitment for a permanent administrator has begun. The Taxicab
Authority Board is working with the Nevada Department of Administration to
conduct a national search. Following a public interview process by the Board, a
list of three candidates will be provided to Director Breslow for consideration
and appointment.
