Nikki Haag appointed to oversee newly established Nevada Office of Boards, Commissions and Councils Standards

Department of Business and Industry Director Dr. Kristopher Sanchez today announced the appointment of Nikki Haag as Deputy Director overseeing the Office of Nevada Boards, Commissions and Councils Standards.  The office was established within the Department of Business and Industry with the passage of SB 431 during the 2023 legislative session.

Haag has had a distinguished career in public service and administration. She previously served as a Consumer Health Assistant/Arbiter for the Office for Consumer Health within the Aging and Disability Services Division where she demonstrated her expertise in consumer advocacy and healthcare rights. Her role involved providing education, facilitating external reviews, and resolving disputes, showcasing her skills in conflict resolution and policy implementation.  

Prior to that she served as Community Engagement Manager and Public Information Officer with the Aging and Disability Services Division. Her responsibilities ranged from supervising administrative support for public bodies, ensured compliance with state regulations, managing public information, and serving as legislative liaison. Those roles have honed her skills in managing complex administration, stakeholder engagement and strategic communication. 

Ms. Haag’s experience also extends to the Nevada Governor’s Office where she served as the Boards and Commissions Program Officer under Governor Brian Sandoval’s administration. In this capacity, she oversaw more than 200 gubernatorial appointments, demonstrating her deep understanding of Nevada Revised Statues and her ability to navigate the legislative system effectively. 

She is a graduate of South Plains College with an Associates Degree of Applied Science and attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She has also been an active participant in the Councils for Establishment of Academic Standards for Public Schools since November 2015 under the appointment of Governors Sandoval and Sisolak. 

Dr. Sanchez expressed his confidence in Ms. Haag’s abilities to lead the new office. “Nikki’s extensive background in public administration, coupled with her deep knowledge of Nevada’s legislative and regulatory framework, make her the ideal candidate to steer the Office of Boards, Commissions and Councils Standards,” said Sanchez. “We are excited to welcome her to the Department and look forward to further developing the framework to operationalize this new office.”   

Haag’s official start date is February 5, and she will be based in the Carson City Director’s Office.
