Las Vegas, NV -
January 29, 2014The
Nevada Taxicab Authority today announced agency relocation plans to take place over
the next few months. The new facility,
located at 2090 E. Flamingo Road, is designed to streamline processes and
improve service delivery to drivers and the general public. The move is
expected to be completed in late April 2014.
“This is an incredibly exciting
time for the Taxicab Authority and signals another milestone in our goal to
become a model regulatory agency for the State of Nevada. I am confident that the Flamingo location will
allow the Taxicab Authority to achieve greater operational efficiencies and
provide a higher level of service to our clients,” said Taxicab Authority
Administrator Charles D. Harvey.
Today’s
announcement represents the culmination of a multi-year process beginning in
2011 when Administrator Harvey evaluated options for relocating to a more
secure, modern and centrally located facility.
In 2013, the Legislature approved funding to move the agency closer to
McCarran International Airport and the Las Vegas Strip where the majority of
taxicab rides occur. The Nevada Board of Examiners approved the lease in
January 2014.
In
2013, the Taxicab Authority served more than 200,000 walk-in customers at their
current location. In addition to moving the facilities to a more centralized
location, the new space provides improved parking, access and security, larger
public hearing rooms and larger driver training classrooms.
The
agency currently regulates and oversees the operations of 16 taxicab companies
operating in Clark County and licenses and certifies approximately 10,000
drivers and 3,000 vehicles. Through
enforcement and partnership with the industry, the Taxicab Authority is
committed to ensuring the safety, comfort and convenience of the taxi riding
public.
