Business and Industry Director Terry Reynolds Announces Retirement

Carson City, NV November 01, 2023

Nevada Department of Business and Industry (B&I) Director Terry Reynolds has announced his retirement effective November 13, 2023. Reynolds has been with B&I for the past ten years, initially serving as deputy director when he joined the department in November 2013 until he was appointed as director in October 2019.

“After 10 years with the Department of Business and Industry, I am retiring to spend more time with my family. My tenure spanned three administrations and five legislative sessions, and I could not have asked for a more rewarding experience,” said Reynolds. “I want to thank Governors Sandoval, Sisolak and Lombardo for their belief in me and the support that I received. I have worked with several truly wonderful and dedicated individuals, many of which will be life-long friends.”

In reflecting on his time at the department, Reynolds points to his work in consolidating what was often viewed as a collection of individual agencies spread throughout southern Nevada into the Nevada State Business Center. Locating the majority of B&I agencies into one complex created operational and strategic efficiency and provided the capacity for the department to offer enhanced entrepreneurial and business assistance to the state’s small business community.

Reynolds was also an advocate for and laid the groundwork that led to the creation of a framework to standardize the operations of Nevada’s occupational licensing boards and commissions. With the passage of SB 431 during the 2023 Legislative Session, the Office of Nevada Boards, Commissions and Councils Standards was created under the department’s jurisdiction.

Over the course of his career, Reynolds has succeeded in both public and private sectors. He received his BA and MA in political science from the University of Nevada, Reno and served as a legislative intern in the Nevada Legislature and a congressional intern for the U.S. Senate.

His private sector experience included serving as general manager for the Resort at Red Hawk and as senior vice president for external affairs and entitlements with the Wingfield Nevada Group Management Company (WNG). He was also the founder and president of The Reynolds Company, a government affairs company. His public sector experience included 10 years at the Department of Business and Industry and 21 years combined as city manager for the cities of Prescott, Arizona, and Elko and Sparks, Nevada. He also served as an administrative officer in the Court Administrator’s Office of the Nevada Supreme Court.

Reynolds will assist in the transition of a new director who will be appointed and announced by Governor Joe Lombardo in the coming days.
